First Week in the Studio in Lurin

How exciting was it to start learning upon arrival in Lurin? I was thrilled!

The picture shows me with the master, learning how to work with different thicknesses of thread to create a lovely 3-ply yarn, perfect for weaving. The balls of yarn on the floor on the right have been hand spun in the highlands of the Ayacucho region of Peru. Each thread is of a different thickness, and it is an art to select a combination that yields the consistency.

Light touch is required, and patience - "amontonando" is making a pile of strands that needs to weigh 1.6 kilos. Next steps before dyeing are creating the skeins, and then thoroughly washing and drying the wool.
